Nick Protentis

Founding Attorney

Nick is the founder of Protentis Law and has been practicing law for over 10 years. Before launching Protentis Law, Nick was an attorney at a small firm in Atlanta where he gained valuable knowledge and experience handling fire, explosion, negligent construction and product liability cases. Before that, Nick was an in-house attorney for a large insurance company where he gained significant trial experience having been the lead attorney in numerous cases tried to verdict.

Nick is a member of Lawyers Club of Atlanta, a Champion member of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, and is on the Board of the Atlanta Bar Association’s Small Firm/Sole Practitioner Section.

A native of New England, Nick graduated from Stonehill College in Massachusetts. He went on to earn his law degree from Georgia State University College of Law, where he was a member of the Jessup International Law Moot Court team, an Honor’s Recipient in Litigation, and performed a year-long externship in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia.

In the years leading up to law school, Nick was a Construction Supervisor for the Albany, Georgia Chapter of Habitat for Humanity. Prior to that, Nick was a Team Member in the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps, based in Charleston, South Carolina. While in AmeriCorps, Nick participated in various volunteer projects throughout the Southeast, including projects with the National Park Service and the Red Cross.

When he is not working, Nick enjoys domestic and international travel (Peru, Thailand and Israel have been his favorite destinations), playing tennis, volunteering and spending time with his wife and son. Nick regularly attends Buckhead Church and is a member of the Board of Advisors for Shepherd Center, an internationally-renowned hospital for patients suffering from multiple sclerosis, spinal and brain injuries, and neuromuscular diseases.

Matthew P. Bonham

Attorney

Matt joined Protentis Law in 2021 and has been practicing law for over 16 years. Prior to joining Protentis Law, Matt worked for 12 years at a plaintiffs’ civil litigation firm in Atlanta, where he gained significant litigation and trial experience handing a wide variety of cases involving everything from catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death claims to property damage subrogation losses caused by fires, explosions, negligent construction and defective products. Before that, Matt worked for several years in the casualty litigation section of a large firm, representing clients in the defense of medical malpractice, workers’ compensation and other tort claims.

Matt grew up in Rome, Georgia, and graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. He went on to earn his law degree from Louisiana State University, Paul M. Hebert Law Center, where he was a member of the Louisiana Law Review.

Matt is admitted to practice in all Georgia state courts and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. He is also licensed in Louisiana, where he has been admitted to practice in all state and federal courts. Matt is a member of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association and has an AV Preeminent Rating by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating given to attorneys based on legal ability, ethics, and professionalism.

Outside of the office, Matt enjoys spending time outdoors running, hiking, or navigating trails in his Jeep, going on dates with his wife, and trying to keep up with his three children and their boundless energy.
